Ripple’s Xpring Introduces Smart Features to XRP Ledger

XRP is now the third-biggest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap, and much of the credit for its success goes to the San Francisco-based Fintech company, Ripple Labs. In a new development that should come as a major boost to Ripple holders, the company announced on Monday that it has come up with two new versions of the XRP Ledger. The announcement was made through the Ripple subsidiary, Xpring.

Key Details

The company has announced two new versions of the ledger in order to improve the services it provides to its clients. This is a significant development for both the company and also for the XRP ecosystem.

There are going to be significant upgrades in the new versions of the XRP Ledger. For instance, handshaking protocols, better packet building, and a slew of bug fixes, among others, are going to be on offer. The company is going to oversee the deployment of XRP Ledger 1.5.0 on the XRP Ledger Testnet on April 15. That will give developers that chance to test out the new version thoroughly by way of XRP mirrors.

Xpring is also going to upgrade the XRP Ledger on its servers. Xpring is the commercial arm of the Ripple.

Mark Yusko, the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Morgan Creek Management, has raised questions about the centralized nature of Ripple’s operations. As everyone knows, cryptocurrencies, by nature, are supposed to be decentralized, but in an interview, Yusko stated that he struggles to understand the dynamics between Ripple and XRP.

He went on to add that this particular relationship between the two is the reason why XRP is not a part of his crypto index. The Crypto Index Fund, managed by Morgan Creek, is one of the most influential indexes in the crypto market.

Is Ethereum (ETH) No Longer a Crypto Trader Favorite?

The cryptocurrency market has been in existence for long enough to now result in the reversal of a status quos that has been in place for years and something of that nature is now happening with Ethereum (ETH). Back in 2017, when the entire crypto market was making enormous gains, and Bitcoin was reaching new highs every day, Ethereum quickly emerged as the second-biggest cryptocurrency in the market.

Etheruem vs. Bitcoin

As a matter of fact, plenty of crypto experts had gone on to say that ETH could eventually upstage Bitcoin as the biggest cryptocurrency in the world by market cap. Like Bitcoin, it also reached massive highs at its peak and accounted for as much as 33% of the entire crypto market. However, unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum has fallen from grace, and currently, it is no longer as influential as it used to be.

>> Bitcoin Breaks $12,000 Amid Global Recession Concerns

At this point of time, the value of the total Ethereum network does not even make up 8% of the entire cryptocurrency market, and that is a particularly jarring drop from 33% when it was at its height. In fact, its current share is only 7.86%, and that is the lowest level for the cryptocurrency since back in March of 2017.

Ethereum is primarily a smart contracts platform, and back in the day, there was a lot of interest in what the blockchain did. Moreover, the Ethereum Enterprise Alliance and its tie-up with big-ticket companies like Deloitte and Toyota (NYSE:TM), among others, had stoked its fair share of optimism as well.

When Bitcoin was in trouble, many believed that Ethereum would eventually become the biggest crypto by market cap, but it never actually came to pass. As the problems with Bitcoin and its scaling blew over, money started flowing back into the token and Ethereum was left in the dust. Moreover, the establishment of many more tokens and rising competition has also been a factor in Ethereum’s fall.

Bitcoin Recovers 15% in 3 Days

After forging new heights this year throughout the first six months of this year, Bitcoin went through incredibly tough times throughout the month of July. In July, the price fluctuated violently as a range of extraneous factors did not allow the token to move beyond a certain level, while the price plunged significantly post recoveries as well.

However, Bitcoin managed to get off to a good start this month and has managed to go past the psychologically important $10,000 market on the back of positive news with regards to the crypto space.

Rise Amid Bearish Sentiment

Throughout the course of July, a wide range of factors affected the price of the token, starting from the doubts over Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) Libra and comments about Bitcoin from some of the most powerful people in the United States.

Experts believe that the rate cut announced by the United States Federal Reserve is one of the biggest reasons behind the surge in the price of Bitcoin. It is interesting to note that over the past three days, the cryptocurrency has surged by as much as 15% from a low of $9,100. When a rate cut takes place, money is more easily available to investors, and experts believe some of that money has flowed into Bitcoin. Crypto market analysts believe that the price movement in Bitcoin was directly related to the rate.

>> China Appears to Soften Its Stance Regarding Cryptocurrency

A market analyst at eTORO said that plenty of important voices in the crypto community have been saying that a stimulus from the Federal Reserve was going to have a positive effect on the price of Bitcoin. On the day the rate cut was announced, the price movement of Bitcoin played out in a way that confirmed those assertions. Just before the rate cut was to be announced, there was a downturn in the price of Bitcoin, and as soon as it had been confirmed, the price started climbing. The price action over the course of the weekend will be watched keenly by most crypto investors.
